Where BleachBit is better

  • Open source, so anyone can inspect exactly what it does.
  • No account, and a portable version for Windows.
  • Shreds files and wipes free space, for privacy rather than just space.
  • Cleaners for a long list of specific applications, and a command line for scripting.

Where Clean Rabbit is better

  • Runs on macOS as well as Windows and Linux.
  • Goes beyond junk files: duplicates, large and old files, app removal with leftovers, and startup items.
  • Every clean can go to the Bin, so it can be undone.

What Clean Rabbit does not do

  • You need a free account to use the app. Downloading does not need one.
  • The Windows installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen shows a warning the first time.
  • No uninstaller on Linux. Use your package manager.
  • No malware scanning, registry cleaning, driver or software updating, or secure file shredding.
  • Duplicate Finder finds exact copies only, not similar photos.

Which to choose

For privacy cleaning, shredding and scripting on Windows or Linux, BleachBit is excellent. For finding where your space went, removing apps and a friendlier review step, or if you use a Mac, choose Clean Rabbit. Many people will be happy with both.
